All of our YPA members have their own stories and we want to take the time to introduce as many of them as possible. Today we are sharing our interview with YPA member Jackie Pashley – the owner of Soundjack DJ Services, a company that supplies DJ entertainment for special events.
Tell us a bit about what you do!
I own and manage Soundjack DJ Services. Soundjack is a professional DJ and Artist Collective based in Sudbury, Ontario. We supply DJ entertainment for special events of all kinds including music festivals, club nights, restaurant and bar, special events, weddings and more. Our mission is to become the most sought-after professional DJ booking service and top Electronic Music Event Producer in Northern Ontario.
Was this the career you have always envisioned for yourself? What inspired you to pursue?
I have envisioned myself being a professional club and special events DJ for roughly 10 years. What started as a hobby in my early twenties is now a full-time music adventure!
In 2013, I made a decision to pursue music full time and work towards my dream of being a professional DJ and owning an entertainment company. I applied and was accepted to the Ontario Self Employment Benefit Program, wrote my first business plan and set out on my journey. My inspiration to pursue this worthy ideal is rooted in my love for music and the magical way it affects people.
Has starting a business worked out the way you expected it to?
Truthfully, no. I’ve wanted to give up several times, for several reasons. But, whenever I am ready to give up, someone or something will inspire me to keep going. I’m learning to take things a day at a time and enjoy the ride.
Do you have any advice for other young professionals looking to take the entrepreneurial leap?
Have faith in yourself and your vision. Make a plan and start taking action. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Just keep swimming.
What is your favourite local spot in Sudbury?
I really enjoy The Durham Social – both as an event venue and a place to relax and eat delicious food!
What made you decide to become a YPA member?
I joined the YPA to network, collaborate and support other young entrepreneurs in Greater Sudbury. By joining the YPA and the Greater Sudbury Chamber Of Commerce I have been afforded some wonderful opportunities to elevate the Soundjack brand.
