All of our YPA members have a story to share! Read below to meet YPA member Emily Hotti, a Registered Nurse at Health Sciences North, who shares what she likes to do during her time off, advice she has for other young professionals and why she joined the Young Professionals Association!

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I was born and raised in Sudbury and am a northern girl at heart! I love to spend time outdoors, hiking, skiing, and snowboarding! One of my favourite places in the world is my camp on Panache.

What do you do for work?

I am a Registered Nurse at Health Sciences North.  I currently work on the Respiratory Care Unit. From the time I was little I have always wanted to help people. I am very happy and grateful that I chose nursing for a career.  It is a profession that never stops giving.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love to travel! Travelling allows me to see life through a unique lens. We get so involved in our current environments and lives, the chance to step out and explore and experience elsewhere gives us a different perspective. The world is full of interesting people, different cultures, beautiful landscapes, incredible food, and amazing opportunities!

I also volunteer to a few different organizations. I started volunteering at a young age with Science North and the YMCA programs. In 2015, I took a one-month missionary trip to Nepal to volunteer as a nurse and ended up assisting the earthquake victims.

I am also a board member for a non-profit organization called Heart of Ruth Mission. I have been volunteering with HOR for the past 5 years with their annual fundraisers. I have been travelling to Kenya to assist at the Rainbow House Children’s Home and volunteer as a nurse in their local clinics/hospitals.

Please add us to Facebook to check out our upcoming fundraisers.  Our 6th annual spaghetti dinner will be taking place February 9th, 4-8pm at 430 Westmount Ave, Sudbury.

What is your favourite local spot in Sudbury?

There are way too many options but if I had to pick it would be Motley Kitchen. I love their unique menu options and majority of the food is local.

Favourite local business?

Another difficult question! Cedar Nest is a lovely establishment. It has a wonderful quaint atmosphere, the daily soups, breakfasts and desserts are to die for; plus you get to shop their unique selection of décor!

What made you decide to become a YPA member?

I kept receiving event notifications from Facebook and have always been interested. A group of friends and I decided to join to network and meet new people and attend all the great events YPA has to offer.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?

Surround yourself with the right people! One of the most important decisions we make in life is whom we choose to be around. Quite often we become like the people we’re around. If you want to have greatness in your life, surround yourself with great people. If you strive to be a happy, fulfilled, honest, confident, empowered and principled person, surround yourself with people who are the same.
