Meet our Board: Victoria Benkovich

The Young Professionals Association of Greater Sudbury is run by a board of volunteers who dedicate their time to foster a culture of community engagement, networking, and professional development, to empower emerging leaders and young professionals in Greater Sudbury. Today, we are introducing you to Victoria Benkovich, our new Director of Communications, as part of our “Meet our Board” blog series!

Describe what you do.

I work in corporate communications for Greater Sudbury Utilities and its group of companies, where I manage internal and external communications.

Was this the career you always envisioned for yourself?

I wasn’t one who always envisioned a certain career for myself. Growing up I had several areas of interest and didn’t make a final decision until second year of university.

What inspired you?

I get inspired by others doing cool things. It motivates me to push myself harder.

Why did you decide to join the YPA and what do you hope to achieve while on the board?

I decided to join the YPA because I want to participate in and contribute to Sudbury’s local community of young professionals. I see value in building a network of young professionals who share experiences and support each other with information in an open and constructive way.
As the Director of Communications on the YPA Board, I look forward to strategizing with the other Board Members in their roles to deliver YPA content and experiences to our members in a way that aims to satisfy their reasons for joining. And then some!

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?

Keep perspective, it can help to provide clarity and direction.

Also, don’t let fear stop you from pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, it’s how you grow.

What is your favourite local business?

We have so many delicious local restaurants but a favourite lunch spot for me is the Alive & Fit Café on Regent. I love their quarterly magazine that’s filled with interesting articles.
