Meet our Board: Kallie Doucette

The Young Professionals Association of Greater Sudbury is run by a board of volunteers who dedicate their time to foster a culture of community engagement, networking and professional development to empower emerging leaders and young professionals in Greater Sudbury. We wanted to take some time to introduce you to each of our board members in our Meet our Board blog series! Today we are introducing you to Kallie Doucette. Kallie is our Director of Professional Development.

Describe what you do?

I am a Naturopathic Doctor. My goal is to not simply to make my clients feel better today, but to educate them with the knowledge to feel better long term. I do this by identifying and removing the underlying causes of illness, rather than merely suppressing symptoms. I treat each patient uniquely by taking into account not only their physical symptoms, but also their mental, emotional, genetic, environmental and social factors. Disease affects the entire person, not just a specific organ or system.

Was this the career you always envisioned for yourself? What inspired you?

I always thought I would be a Physiotherapist. I ended up seeing a Naturopathic Doctor for my own health. I was blown away by how thorough and knowledgeable my Naturopathic Doctor was. It completely changed my view on healthcare and I knew that I wanted to to the same for people.

Why did you decide to join the YPA and what do you hope to achieve while on the board?

I decided to join the YPA to meet other like-minded young professionals. I am currently the Director of Professional Development and my goal is to create more resources for young professionals to develop their skills.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?

Work hard, but listen to your body and what it needs. Your adrenal glands will thank you for it. It is normal to have periods of stress in your life, but when you are chronically stressed and overworked, your stress hormone cortisol stays elevated and causes adrenal fatigue. Symptoms include fatigue, insomnia, weight gain, craving caffeine, sugar, and salty foods, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, and depression. If this sounds like you, start paying attention to how you handle stress.

What is your favourite local business?

Without a doubt ARC Climbing and Yoga Studio is my favourite local business. The sense of community at ARC is amazing. Rock climbing is a passion of mine that helps me forget everything and wind down after a stressful day.

What habit do you think more people should have?

I think getting in the habit to setting goals and work on them daily is something more people need to do.

If you were famous what would it be for?

That’s a tough one. I love the mountains so I hope it would have something to do with rock climbing and mountaineering.
