The Young Professionals Association of Greater Sudbury is run by a board of volunteers who dedicate their time to foster a culture of community engagement, networking, and professional development to empower emerging leaders and young professionals in Greater Sudbury. We wanted to take some time to introduce you to each of our board members in our Meet our Board blog series! Today we are introducing you to Adam Killah. Adam is our Director of Marketing.
Describe what you do
I am the Marketing and Communications Officer for Music & Film in Motion (a Division of Cultural Industries Ontario North). I design and implement marketing and communications plans with the goal of promoting the successes of Northern Ontario’s music and film industries. In addition to this, we aim to assist in fostering the industries’ development by providing educational programming to cultivate the advancement of Northern Ontario’s emerging talent while striving to connect artists and practitioners with opportunities and resources to advance their businesses, projects and careers.
Was this the career you always envisioned for yourself? What inspired you?
Besides my amazing parents, I am inspired by great leaders in the arts, athletics and politics throughout history.
I always had a difficult time narrowing down the career I envisioned myself doing but I knew I wanted to exercise my creativity while contributing to some good in the world and in the lives of others.
Why did you decide to join the YPA and what do you hope to achieve while on the board?
While on the board, I hope to facilitate mutually rewarding connections between Sudbury’s emerging film/music industries and the young professionals of our city. I hope to leave behind plenty of positivity in the community and genuinely enjoy myself while doing this.
I decided to join the YPA to expand my network and push myself to try new things that will hopefully advance my professional career and overall goals.
Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
“Reach for the stars so if you fall, you’ll land on a cloud.”
What is your favourite local business?
Skater’s Edge Source for Sports because they have always provided exceptional customer service and since I was a kid, they’ve allowed me to flex hockey sticks inside their store. They’ve shown impressive growth over the years and remained knowledgeable about the new technologies and safety features that goes into sports equipment. Skater’s supports youth hockey initiatives and still offer the best skate sharpening you can find!
Also, I highly recommend buying some apparel from Ryan at The Positive Inception, fresh clothing you’ll feel great about, then catch some live tunes with a burger at the Townehouse Tavern downtown.
Top five places you would love to travel to?
Scotland, Australia, Egypt, Peru & Canada (Coast to Coast)
